  • CWA Carpinteria/Santa Barbara offers scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to  students in the local community who will be attending a 4 yr. college or trade school  to pursue a degree in an agricultural related field.
  • Scholarships will be awarded annually. Students may re-apply for scholarship each year.
  • CWA also offers the Grace Young Memorial Scholarship to a student who has a leadership role in FFA  and shows exemplary participation.

2022-2023 CWA Scholarship Recipients: 

Stephanie Gonzalez – Grace and Ollie Young Scholarship Recipient

Stephanie is a 2022 graduate from Carpinteria High School.  She attended CHS all 4 years and was a member of the CHS/FFA all 4 years.  She held various offices, participated in many different competitions, and conferences during her 4 years in FFA.  She was Chapter Treasurer of CHS/FFA her senior year, and won Outstanding Treasurer at the Opening and Closing ceremonies competition.  She has raised rabbits, goats and swine (which she won 7th place overall at the VC fair her senior year).   She is currently attending Fresno State and is majoring in agriculture business.  Her long term goal/career is to own and operate a swine farm.  She is an amazing young woman and will be a valuable asset to the agriculture community.  Stephanie is attending Fresno State University.

Sydney Morente - General Scholarship recipient

Sydney is a 2022 graduate from CHS high school.  In Sydney's junior year she found an interest in the wine business.  She is interested in the cultivation and harvesting of grapes, and the chemistry involved in making wine.  She would love to travel and eventually own her vineyard in California or maybe even Italy!!  She values the art of wine.  Sydney is enrolled in the Vintner program at CalPoly/SLO.

Sydney Endow - General Scholarship Recipient

Sydney is a 2020 graduate from CHS.  She has been attending CalPOLY SLO for the past 3 years majoring in animal science/pre veterinarian.  She is very involved in many different clubs at CalPOLY, and has done 7 years of volunteering/internship at a local veterinarian office in Carpinteria.  Her long term academic goal is to attend UC Davis and get her veterinarian degree, then return to Carpinteria and open up a small animal practice

Augustus (Augie) Sheaffer - General Scholarship Recipient

Augie is a 2022 graduate from CHS high school.  He participated in various clubs and sports in high school including FFA.  He earned his Eagle Scout Distinguished Service Citation and Outstanding Science Award. Augie built 2 owl boxes. One is located at CHS and the other is in the field by the District Office

Abigail Delwiche - General Scholarship Recipient

Abbie is a 2022 graduate of CHS.   As a child she grew up on an avocado ranch and was surrounded by animals and agriculture.  She has trained horses, dogs and helped her grandfather feed, vaccinate and administer medicine to his cattle herd. She also did an intern with an equine veterinarian doctor.  Her long career goal is to become a veterinarian.  Currently she is attending California Lutheran University.

Olivia Sheaffer  - General Scholarship Recipient

Olivia is a 2020 graduate from CHS high school.  While attending CHS she raised several sheep and showed and sold them at the VC Fair.  She is attending Iowa State University where she is majoring in apparel merchandising and design.  Her long term career goal is to work for a company that preaches sustainability and whose philosophy is to use organic and ethically sourced textiles.  Some day she would like to own a sheep farm that produces wool.

Isaac Castillo- General Scholarship Recipient

Isaac is a 2021 CHS graduate and was the Grace and Ollie Young Scholarship Recipient in 2021-2022. Isaac is in his 2nd year at Fresno State University.  He has obtained an internship at a swine unit.  After he has completed his 150 hours of internship, he is hoping to stay on with the swine unit. His career goal is to learn to manage a swine unit.  He is also interested in gaining experience at dairy, beef and sheep units.  Agriculture/animals was a big part of Isaac's life when he was in high school, and he is looking forward to making it part of his future.

Isaac Castillo
Isaac graduated from CHS in June 2020 and was accepted to Fresno State where he will pursue a degree in Animal Science with an emphasis on livestock management. As a four-year FFA member Isaac was involved in several leadership roles such as being a chapter officer, attending leadership conferences and competitions. He also raised 4 market swine and mentored other FFA students with their swine projects.   It was through these leadership skills that gave Isaac the confidence to apply to a university;  his acceptance to Fresno State is truly the highlight of his life.

Jenny Alaniz
Jenny graduated from CHS in June 2018 and is currently attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is pursuing a degree in Animal/Dairy Science and plans to graduate in June 2022. Jenny was involved in 4-H during high school and raised a market steer and a replacement heifer. Through 4-H she was able to attend the Adventures in Veterinary Medicine at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.  It was that experience that led her to decide to pursue a degree in Animal Science and eventually apply for Veterinarian School. While attending CHS she was involved in sports and various clubs and continues to do so as a student at Cal Poly.

Hali Schwasnick
Hali graduated from CHS in June 2018.  Her passion is being outdoors, which led her to attend UC Davis and pursue a degree in Wildlife Biology. After completing her undergraduate degree she will begin to finalise her long term educational/career plans, but wherever she ends up, agriculture will be part of her future. Hali is a 6th generation Carpinterian and her family owns an avocado ranch.  Growing up she was involved in the family business with selling flowers, avocados, and cherimoyas. She sold the products at the local farmer’s market where she learned to connect with customers on many different levels.  She is committed to helping the environment, while supporting farmers.

Lupita Hurtado
Lupita graduated from CHS in June 2014 and is attending Chico State majoring in Animal Science. She will graduate in December and plans to apply to Vet Tech Schools. Lupita was a four-year member of CHS FFA. She was involved with the livestock projects raising 3 lambs and 3 steers. Additionally, she worked for SB Wildlife and interned with a farm sanctuary in Northern California. Lupita has been involved in agriculture all her life and hopes to have a ranch where she can raise cattle, grow cherimoyas, and avocados has her parents have done all her life.

Sydney Endow
Sydney graduated from CHS in June 2020 and is attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she is majoring in Vet Science. After she graduates from Cal Poly, she plans on attending Veterinarian School. While at CHS, Sydney was a FFA member and enrolled in Agriculture Chemistry and Vet Science courses. After school Sydney volunteered at Animal Medical Clinic in Carpinteria. She sat in on appointments, surgeries, assisted with vet tech duties, but most of all learned about the profession that she is so passionate about. Sydney knew from a young age that she always wanted to take care of animals and major in Vet Science.

Olivia Scheaffer
Graduated from CHS in June 2020 and is attending Iowa State University and will be majoring in apparel merchandising and design. She would like to work for a company such as Patagonia where she will be the person who designs different fabrics for the clothes that the company sells. She was a FFA member for 2 years, during that time she raised two market lambs and showed at the Ventura County Fair. She also participated in several leadership activities: L.A. County Fair Judging Team, Leadership Conferences, public speaking, Fillmore Field Day and participated in the CHS FFA Field Day.
